Hammamet

Hammamet, Tunisia: Sunshine, Sea, and a Proper Switch-Off.

Our last trip to Hammamet was fabulous, sunshine, warmth, and that lovely feeling of completely switching off. From the moment we arrived, everything just felt easy. Blue skies, warm air, and the kind of pace that encourages you to slow down without even trying.

We stayed in the Yasmine Hammamet area, close to the marina, which gave us the perfect mix of relaxed days and a bit of atmosphere in the evenings. Mornings were slow, coffee, sunshine, and deciding whether the day called for the pool or the beach (a very nice dilemma to have).

One of our favourite days was exploring the old medina in Hammamet. It’s everything you imagine, winding streets, whitewashed walls, pops of bright blue, and little shops tucked away selling ceramics, spices, and handmade pieces.

We wandered without much of a plan, which is always the best way, and eventually found ourselves at the Kasbah of Hammamet. The views from the top, looking out over the sea, were absolutely stunning, one of those quiet moments where you just stop and take it all in.

Most days settled into that perfect holiday rhythm, beach, swim, relax, repeat. The coastline in Hammamet is beautiful, with soft sand and clear, calm water that makes it very easy to lose track of time.

Afternoons drifted into evenings with a drink in hand, watching the sun go down, deciding where to eat, and doing it all again the next day. No rush, no pressure, just enjoying being there.

The food was another highlight. Fresh seafood, traditional Tunisian dishes like couscous, and plenty of flavours that felt both comforting and a little bit different. Evenings around the marina in Yasmine Hammamet had a really lovely atmosphere, relaxed, lively without being too busy, and perfect for just wandering and choosing somewhere that felt right.

Hammamet gave us exactly what we were looking for, sunshine, simplicity, and time to properly relax. It’s not about ticking off a long list of sights; it’s about how easy it is to just be.

We came back feeling refreshed, happy, and already talking about when we might go again, which is always the sign of a great trip.

If you’re thinking about booking your own trip to Tunisia, it’s definitely worth having a look at TravelSupermarket, On the Beach, and lastminute.com — we’ve found some really great deals on there over time, and it’s a good place to start if you’re looking for a bit of inspiration as well as value.

Have fun xx

Saint Lucia: A Trip We’ll Never Forget

We had the most amazing time in Saint Lucia; we loved every single moment of it. From the second we arrived, there was just something about the island that felt different. It’s not your typical Caribbean destination; it’s greener, more dramatic, and full of those little moments that make you stop and take it all in.

Seeing the Pitons in real life was one of those moments. They’re absolutely breathtaking; no photo quite does them justice. Whether we were catching a glimpse of them from the beach or sitting with a drink watching the light change over the water, they made every day feel that bit more special.

We spent time around Soufrière, which quickly became one of our favourite spots. It has such a relaxed, authentic feel to it, the kind of place where you can slow down properly and just enjoy being there.

One of the highlights was visiting the Sulphur Springs, such a unique experience (and yes, we did the mud baths!). We also wandered through Diamond Falls Botanical Gardens, which felt like stepping into another world with its waterfalls and lush greenery. It’s the kind of place where you lose track of time in the best possible way.

The beaches in Saint Lucia are all so different, which we loved. Sugar Beach was just stunning, set right between the Pitons, while Anse Chastanet had some of the best snorkelling we’ve ever done.

And then there’s Marigot Bay, calm, beautiful, and exactly the kind of place where you find yourself sitting for hours without even realising it. Sunset, a drink in hand, nowhere else to be… those are the moments we’ll remember most.

The food was another highlight, fresh, full of flavour, and always best enjoyed slowly. We tried local dishes, plenty of seafood, and more than a few rum cocktails along the way. Everything just felt relaxed and unhurried, which made it even better.

Saint Lucia is one of those places that stays with you. It’s not just about how beautiful it is, it’s how it makes you feel while you’re there. Relaxed, happy, completely switched off from everything else.

We honestly loved every moment, and it’s already on the list of places we’d go back to in a heartbeat.

Discovering Cádiz

A Hidden Gem

Cádiz is one of our favourite places we have been to. The city welcomed us with open arms, offering a mix of history, culture, and beautiful landscapes that made our stay unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, the city’s charm was palpable. We checked into our hotel in the heart of the Old Town, a perfect base for our explorations. The warm Andalusian sun and the salty sea breeze set the tone for what would be a magical few days.

We started with a leisurely stroll through the Old Town, immediately captivated by its narrow cobblestone streets and historic buildings. Plaza de San Juan de Dios, bustling with life, was our first stop. We sat at a café, enjoying cold cervezas while soaking in the lively atmosphere. The Cádiz Cathedral, with its stunning golden dome, was a highlight of the day. Climbing to the top of the tower was a bit of a workout, but the panoramic views of the city and the Atlantic Ocean were absolutely worth it.

Torre Tavira, the city’s highest point, where we experienced a live panoramic view of Cádiz through a camera obscura. It was fascinating to see the city’s layout from this unique perspective. Our journey through history continued as we stumbled upon the Roman Theatre, a hidden gem nestled among modern buildings. This ancient site, remarkably well-preserved, gave us a glimpse into Cádiz’s past as we imagined the grand performances that once took place there. The Museo de Cádiz further enriched our understanding of the city’s history, with its extensive collection of artifacts from various periods, including the Phoenician, Roman, and Moorish eras.

After all of our exploration, we decided to spend some time enjoying Cádiz’s famous coastline. La Caleta beach was our chosen spot, a small but picturesque beach surrounded by history. We started the day with a refreshing swim in the calm waters. The beach, though popular, wasn’t too crowded, allowing us to relax and soak up the sun. Afterward, we wandered over to Castillo de Santa Catalina, a fortress that offers stunning views of the sea. The small art exhibitions inside the castle were a pleasant surprise, adding a cultural touch to our beach day. As the day drew to a close, we stayed on the beach to watch the sunset. The sky transformed into a canvas of pinks and oranges, casting a magical glow over the old fortresses, making it one of the most memorable sunsets we’ve ever witnessed.

Food is an essential part of any trip, and Cádiz did not disappoint. We dedicated our fourth day to exploring the local culinary scene, starting with a visit to the Mercado Central. The market was alive with activity, and we couldn’t resist sampling the local specialties, including tortillas de camarones and fresh oysters. For lunch, we headed to Restaurante El Faro, a renowned establishment where we indulged in atún rojo and pescado a la sal. The dishes were not only delicious but also beautifully presented, making for a truly memorable meal. In the evening, we embarked on a tapas crawl through the Old Town. Each bar offered something different, from jamón ibérico to gambas al ajillo. The lively atmosphere, combined with the friendliness of the locals, made the experience even more enjoyable.

On our last morning in Cádiz, we took a final stroll through the city, revisiting some of our favorite spots. We enjoyed a leisurely breakfast of churros con chocolate in the La Viña neighborhood, savoring the laid-back atmosphere. A walk along the Paseo Marítimo allowed us to take in the stunning ocean views one last time. Before heading to the airport, we made sure to pick up a few souvenirs, including a bottle of local sherry and some handcrafted ceramics, as mementos of our time in this beautiful city.

Cádiz is a place that lingers in your heart long after you’ve left. From its ancient streets and historic landmarks to its delicious food and stunning beaches, every moment spent here was special. We left Cádiz with a deep appreciation for its rich culture and history, and a longing to return one day.
