The Ritz London is like stepping into a dream of timeless elegance and charm. My favorite memory there was indulging in afternoon tea beneath the grand chandeliers of the Palm Court. The clinking of fine china, the delicate aroma of freshly baked scones, and the gentle hum of a live pianist made it feel as though I’d been transported to another era. Every detail, from the gilded decor to the impeccable service, exuded sophistication. It wasn’t just a visit; it was an experience, a moment where luxury and history came together to create pure magic.

Our trip to Faro in Portugal’s Algarve region was an unforgettable adventure that combined sun-soaked beaches, charming old towns, and rich culture. We were looking for both relaxation and exploration, we found everything we were looking for in southern Portugal.

Faro: Gateway to the Algarve

Faro, the Algarve’s capital and a city brimming with history and natural beauty. Often just a quick stop for many tourists heading to the busier parts of the Algarve, Faro deserves more than just a fleeting visit. We wandered through the Old Town (Cidade Velha), where narrow cobbled streets led us to the impressive Arco da Vila, an ancient archway that serves as a gateway to the city’s historic core.

One of our favorite experiences was exploring the Cathedral of Faro in Largo da Sé. After climbing the bell tower, we were rewarded with panoramic views of the city and the nearby Ria Formosa Natural Park—a stunning coastal lagoon. This park, with its maze of waterways, is perfect for birdwatching, and we took a relaxing boat tour, gliding through the peaceful landscape.

At night, Faro’s laid-back charm came alive in the form of cozy restaurants and wine bars. We couldn’t resist indulging in local seafood dishes like cataplana, a flavorful seafood stew, while enjoying the relaxed yet vibrant atmosphere of the town.

The Algarve’s Authentic Side

What struck us most about Faro was the authentic Portuguese charm that’s often overshadowed by the more commercialized parts of the Algarve. This offered a more relaxed, slow-paced atmosphere that made it easy to immerse ourselves in the local culture. From sipping espresso at a street-side café to chatting with friendly locals in the market, every moment felt like an invitation to experience the real Portugal.

Faro’s laid-back vibe, local eateries serving fresh seafood, and easy access to pristine beaches make it a must-visit destination. Whether you’re staying a few days or just passing through, Faro will leave a lasting impression.

Second, my playlist-building skills are unmatched; somehow, I can mix Taylor Swift with heavy metal, and it actually works.

Third, I have a knack for remembering random facts no one asked for, like how octopuses have three hearts (and yes, I bring it up way too often).

Fourth, I’ve mastered the art of saving awkward pauses with jokes that might not always land but still get a laugh.

If I could change one thing about myself, it would be my ability to instantly come up with a snappy comeback hours after the conversation is over. Imagine how unstoppable I’d be if I could deliver a zinger *before* the other person even finished talking! Instead, I just stand there, nodding like a bobblehead, while my brain holds a committee meeting about what to say. I’d be a legend… or at least less awkward at parties.

I absolutely love Cranberry Orange Cheesecake Bars—they’re the perfect holiday dessert! The tangy cranberry sauce paired with the bright orange zest is such a refreshing combination, and it balances the rich, creamy cheesecake beautifully. The buttery graham cracker crust adds just the right amount of crunch, and the vibrant cranberry swirl on top makes them look so festive and elegant. They were surprisingly easy to make, but they looked and tasted like something straight out of a bakery. These bars were a huge hit at my holiday gathering, and I’ll definitely be making them again!

Discovering Rhodes, Greece: Sun, Sea, and Ancient History

Rhodes was everything we imagined a Greek island getaway would be—breathtaking beaches, rich history, and picture-perfect towns. Our trip to Rhodes was filled with moments of awe, relaxation, and adventure, as we soaked up everything this island had to offer.

Exploring the Medieval Old Town

One of the highlights of our trip was exploring Rhodes Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Walking through the ancient city walls felt like stepping back in time. The cobbled streets, stone buildings, and narrow alleys are all remnants of the Knights of St. John, who once ruled the island.

We spent hours wandering through the maze-like streets, discovering hidden courtyards and small, family-run shops. The Palace of the Grand Master was a definite must-see, with its grand halls and ancient artifacts. It’s a place where you can really feel the weight of history around you. And once we were done exploring the historic sights, we sat down for a refreshing Greek coffee in one of the many shaded squares, taking in the lively atmosphere.

Prasonisi: Windsurfing Heaven

For something more adventurous, we headed down to Prasonisi, the southern tip of Rhodes. It’s a unique spot where two seas meet—the Aegean and the Mediterranean. This makes Prasonisi a paradise for windsurfers and kitesurfers, and though we’re not experts, we couldn’t resist trying our hand at it. We didn’t do too good! The winds are strong here, making it perfect for thrill-seekers, but even if you’re not into water sports, the view of the two merging seas is unforgettable.

Beaches, Beaches, and More Beaches

Rhodes is famous for its beaches, and we spent plenty of time hopping from one beautiful coastline to another. One of our favorites was Tsambika Beach—a long stretch of golden sand with crystal-clear water. We spent a full day here, alternating between swimming, lounging under a parasol, and snacking on delicious Greek mezze from the beachside tavernas.

The Ancient Ruins of Lindos

One of the most iconic sights on Rhodes is the Acropolis of Lindos. Perched high above the village of Lindos, this ancient ruin offers breathtaking views of the turquoise sea below. We made the hike up early in the morning to avoid the midday heat, and the effort was totally worth it. The views from the top were nothing short of spectacular, and the ruins themselves were fascinating to explore.

Afterward, we spent time wandering through the whitewashed streets of Lindos village, stopping in little boutiques and grabbing lunch at a rooftop taverna with a view of the Acropolis. It was one of the most picturesque spots we visited during our trip.

Mandraki Harbour

Visiting Mandraki Harbour in Rhodes is like stepping into a blend of history and scenic beauty. This vibrant port, once the site where the legendary Colossus of Rhodes stood, is now home to charming windmills, yachts, and local fishing boats. We strolled along the harbor, taking in the views of the azure sea and admiring the statues of deer, said to stand where the Colossus once did. The harbor is bustling yet peaceful, with a lively atmosphere and nearby cafes perfect for enjoying the sea breeze while soaking in centuries of maritime history.

Greek Hospitality and Delicious Food

We can’t talk about Rhodes without mentioning the food! Greek cuisine is an absolute treat, and every meal we had was a feast for the senses. From traditional souvlaki and moussaka to fresh seafood, we indulged in the local flavors as often as we could. One evening, we stumbled upon a family-run taverna in a small village, where the hospitality was as memorable as the food. The owner even taught us a bit of Greek dancing after dinner!

Sunsets at Monolithos Castle

To end one of our days in Rhodes, we drove to the west coast to visit Monolithos Castle. Perched high on a cliff overlooking the sea, this ancient castle ruin offers incredible sunset views. We sat on the edge of the walls, watching the sun dip below the horizon, casting a golden glow over the Aegean Sea. It was the perfect way to end our day.

We loved Rhodes

Rhodes offered the perfect balance of adventure, relaxation, and history. Whether we were lounging on a secluded beach, exploring ancient ruins, or getting lost in the medieval streets of Old Town, there was always something new to discover. The island’s blend of natural beauty and rich cultural heritage makes it a destination we can’t recommend enough.

Rhodes captured our hearts with its friendly locals, incredible food, and stunning landscapes, and we can’t wait to go back for another Greek island adventure.

Palma boasts some beautiful beaches. The closest, Cala Major and Playa de Palma, are just a short distance from the city centre. Warm waters, soft sand, and lively beach clubs make these spots ideal for a day of relaxation. Don’t forget your sunscreen!

Discovering Local Cuisine
Palma’s food scene is a delicious mix of traditional Spanish flavours and Mallorcan specialties. Be sure to try ensaimada, a sweet pastry that’s perfect for breakfast, and indulge in sobrasada, a spreadable cured sausage unique to the island. For dinner, visit one of the local markets or tapas bars like Mercat de l’Olivar for fresh seafood and a glass of local wine.

Day Trips & Adventures
If you have time, take a short drive out of Palma to discover the picturesque villages of Valldemossa or Deià, perched on the slopes of the Tramuntana mountains. These quaint towns are full of character, with winding streets, art galleries, and panoramic views of the island’s lush landscapes.

A Luxurious Escape to Monte Carlo

Monte Carlo, the glamorous heart of Monaco, was a dream destination for us. It is one of our favorite places we have ever been to. Our trip to Monte Carlo was unforgettable with a mix of luxury, stunning views, and a taste of the high life. Nestled between the Mediterranean Sea and the Maritime Alps, Monte Carlo offers an unbeatable blend of elegance and natural beauty.

We arrived at the iconic Monte Carlo Casino, the epitome of sophistication. Even if you’re not a gambler, stepping inside this world-famous building feels like entering a different era. The ornate ceilings, lavish chandeliers, and old-world charm create an atmosphere that’s hard to resist. We spent a few hours trying our luck at the slot machines, feeling every bit like James Bond in a movie. Sadly, we didn’t win, but the people-watching alone is worth the visit!

Monte Carlo is also famous for its luxurious yachts, and the Port Hercules didn’t disappoint. Walking along the marina, we were in awe of the mega-yachts docked there. The sheer opulence of the boats gave us a glimpse into the lifestyle of the rich and famous. We stopped at a café along the waterfront for a leisurely lunch, soaking in the views and enjoying some fresh seafood.

Another highlight of our visit was Le Rocher, the historic old town of Monaco. Here, we explored narrow, winding streets that led us to the stunning Prince’s Palace. The views from up here are incredible, offering panoramic vistas of the Mediterranean and the surrounding hills. We even caught the changing of the guard ceremony, which added to the royal atmosphere.

For car enthusiasts like us, Monte Carlo is a paradise. The streets here are famous for being part of the Monaco Grand Prix, and we couldn’t resist tracing the route through the city, imagining the adrenaline of Formula 1 racing. The roar of engines is replaced by the hum of luxury cars cruising the city, which feels like an attraction in itself.

We made sure to visit Larvotto Beach, a beautifully clean and pebbled beach, perfect for a late afternoon swim. The Mediterranean waters were crystal-clear, and while the beach wasn’t crowded, it still had an air of exclusivity that only Monte Carlo can deliver. We relaxed here, enjoying the sunshine and cooling off in the sea, which felt like a perfect balance after the city’s glitz and glamour.

Dining in Monte Carlo is, of course, an experience in itself. We treated ourselves to a memorable dinner at Le Louis XV, one of the world’s most famous restaurants located in the Hôtel de Paris. From the exquisite cuisine to the impeccable service, it was a night we’ll never forget. The combination of fine dining and stunning views made it feel like we were in a postcard. This was the absolute highlight of our holiday. We can’t wait to go back again – such an incredible experience.

Sipping champagne at Café de Paris in Monte Carlo is an unforgettable experience. Nestled in the heart of the glamorous Casino Square, the café offers the perfect blend of elegance and people-watching. As we enjoyed our glass of bubbly, the lively atmosphere, chic surroundings, and iconic views of Monte Carlo made it feel like a true luxury moment. The charm of the French Riviera, combined with the café’s timeless appeal, made it a delightful stop during our visit.

Monte Carlo truly lives up to its reputation for luxury, but it’s also much more than that. Its natural beauty, rich history, and cultural attractions make it a destination for all types of travelers. The river walk offers great views of the city’s unique blend of historic and modern architecture.

Bilbao is also the perfect base for exploring the stunning Basque countryside. Take a day trip to nearby coastal towns like Getxo or Bermeo, or hike in the Gorbeia Natural Park for a taste of the Basque region’s breathtaking landscapes.
