Saying Goodbye

One of the hardest phases in life to say goodbye to is the transition from college to adulthood. It’s a time filled with friendships that feel like family, late-night conversations about dreams, and a sense of limitless potential. The freedom to explore, make mistakes, and grow without the full weight of responsibility is something you don’t realize you’ll miss until it’s gone.

Then, graduation comes. Friends scatter in different directions, responsibilities pile up, and the once-exciting unknown now feels overwhelming. The shift from being surrounded by a community to navigating the world alone can be bittersweet. It’s a goodbye to spontaneity, youthful idealism, and the version of yourself that existed in that space. But while it’s painful to leave behind, it also marks the beginning of a new chapter—one filled with new challenges, deeper growth, and unexpected joys.

Madeira

A Fabulous Getaway to Madeira: Sun, Adventure, and Stunning Views

If you’re looking for the perfect mix of adventure, relaxation, and breathtaking scenery, Madeira is the hidden gem you’ve been dreaming of. We had the pleasure of exploring this enchanting Portuguese island, and it exceeded every expectation. Here’s a peek at our unforgettable trip to Madeira—one filled with romance, stunning landscapes, and plenty of new experiences!

Our journey began in Funchal, Madeira’s vibrant capital. The cobbled streets and colorful buildings immediately set a wonderful tone. We strolled through the Mercado dos Lavradores, where fresh flowers, local crafts, and traditional delicacies like bolo do caco (Madeiran flatbread) filled the air with irresistible aromas. It was the perfect spot to kick off our adventure, sampling local cheeses and fresh fruit. The markets are a must-visit for anyone looking to explore the island’s culture.

In the afternoon, we took the cable car up to Monte, offering sweeping views of Funchal’s terracotta rooftops, the Atlantic Ocean, and surrounding mountains. The highlight was our peaceful stroll through the Monte Palace Gardens—a beautiful, lush oasis perfect for a quiet, romantic moment.

If you’re an adventurous couple, Madeira’s rugged terrain will make your hearts race! The island’s towering mountains and cliffside paths are perfect for hiking. We decided to tackle one of Madeira’s famous levada walks—the Levada dos 25 Fontes. This scenic trail took us through dense forests, past waterfalls, and to crystal-clear pools, offering both challenge and breathtaking beauty. The entire hike felt like a hidden adventure in nature, perfect for bonding over shared experiences.

Afterwards, we treated ourselves to a relaxing afternoon at Cabo Girão, one of the highest sea cliffs in Europe. The glass skywalk offered a heart-stopping view over the Atlantic.

Madeira’s coastline is nothing short of magical. We spent our third day exploring the island’s coastal beauty, visiting the Porto Moniz natural lava pools. These unique, crystal-clear pools are formed by volcanic rocks, providing a natural, refreshing swim against the backdrop of the ocean. The peaceful setting made for a great afternoon of soaking in the sun and dipping in the sea.

Later, we headed to Ponta de São Lourenço, a stunning peninsula offering dramatic views of jagged cliffs and turquoise waters. We explored the coastline on foot, marveling at the scenery.

What’s a trip to Madeira without sampling its world-famous Madeira wine? We spent our final day indulging in a wine-tasting tour at the Blandy’s Wine Lodge in Funchal. From the moment we walked through the doors, we were immersed in the rich history of Madeira’s wine-making tradition. We learned about the process, the different types of Madeira wine, and of course, we tasted some incredible vintages.

We enjoyed a cozy meal at a charming restaurant by the sea, where we savored grilled espada (black scabbardfish) and milho frito (fried cornmeal). The food in Madeira was fresh, flavorful, and always made with love, just like the island itself.

Madeira is everything we hoped for and more. Whether you’re hiking through lush forests, relaxing in a natural pool, or sipping wine while watching the sunset, this island offers the perfect blend of adventure, relaxation, and romance. It’s a destination that celebrates nature, culture, and the joy of spending quality time with your loved one.

If you’re looking for a great getaway, Madeira should definitely be at the top of your list! 🌿🌺

Cherbourg

Exploring Cherbourg: A Charming French Escape

Cherbourg had always been on our travel bucket list, and this year, we managed to go back for the second time. Nestled in Normandy, France, this port city offers the perfect mix of history, coastal beauty, and authentic French charm.

Arriving in Cherbourg felt like stepping into a painting. The colorful buildings lining the harbor, the gently bobbing boats, and the crisp sea air immediately set a relaxed, inviting tone. We strolled along the Port of Cherbourg, marveling at the tranquil views. The reflections of the vibrant houses on the water were postcard-perfect.

Cherbourg is steeped in history. We spent hours exploring the Cité de la Mer, a must-visit museum housed in the old transatlantic terminal. The star attraction? Le Redoutable, a massive submarine you can walk through! It’s an eye-opener into the engineering marvels and naval history of the region.

Next, we wandered into the Basilique Sainte-Trinité, a serene and architecturally stunning church. Its intricate details and peaceful atmosphere provided a lovely break from the bustling streets.

No trip to France is complete without indulging in local cuisine, and Cherbourg didn’t disappoint. We discovered La Cale, a charming waterfront bistro where we savored fresh seafood, including buttery scallops and perfectly cooked mussels. For dessert, we couldn’t resist a tarte Normande paired with local cider—it was divine.

For a casual lunch, the creperies scattered across the city offered delicious savory galettes and sweet crepes. Each bite reminded us why French cuisine is beloved worldwide.

One of the highlights of our trip was exploring Plage de Collignon, a nearby beach perfect for a quiet escape. The coastal paths offered stunning views of the English Channel, and the crisp sea breeze was invigorating.

We also took a short drive to Cap de la Hague, known as the “end of the world” for its wild, rugged beauty. Watching the waves crash against the cliffs was a humbling experience, and it made us appreciate the natural diversity Cherbourg offers.

Tips for Visiting Cherbourg

  1. Timing: Visit in late spring or early summer for mild weather and fewer crowds.
  2. Getting Around: Cherbourg is best explored on foot, but renting a car is great for venturing out to surrounding areas like Barfleur or Sainte-Mère-Église.
  3. Language: A few French phrases go a long way! The locals are friendly and appreciate the effort.

Cherbourg was everything we remembered and more—charming, enriching, and rejuvenating. It’s a destination that caters to history buffs, foodies, and nature lovers alike. If you’re considering a trip to Normandy, don’t overlook this gem of a city.

What I Admire

What is something others do that sparks your admiration?

I deeply admire the way some people show unwavering kindness and empathy, even in the face of adversity. Watching someone go out of their way to help a stranger, lend a listening ear, or offer encouragement without expecting anything in return fills me with profound respect. It’s their ability to stay patient and compassionate, even when life tests their limits, that truly moves me. Whether it’s a teacher who invests extra time in a struggling student, or a friend who offers support during tough times, their selflessness reminds me of the power of human connection. Their actions inspire me to be more mindful and to strive for that same generosity of spirit in my own life.

Discover Tavira: Algarve’s Hidden Gem

Our trip to Tavira in Portugal’s Algarve region was an unforgettable adventure that combined sun-soaked beaches, charming old towns, and rich culture. We were looking for both relaxation and exploration, and we found everything we were looking for in the Eastern Algarve.

Tavira: The Jewel of the Eastern Algarve

Tavira, a charming town that feels like a step back in time. Unlike the bustling resort towns of the western Algarve, Tavira offers a quieter, more authentic Portuguese experience. The Gilão River runs through the town, creating a picturesque setting as it meanders under the iconic Roman Bridge. We spent hours wandering the town’s historic streets, marveling at the traditional whitewashed houses and charming tiled facades.

Tavira’s history stretches back centuries, and this is evident in its architecture. We visited the Tavira Castle, which offers fantastic views of the town and the surrounding countryside. From there, we explored the Igreja da Santa Maria do Castelo, a beautiful church built on the site of a former mosque.

One of the highlights of Tavira was catching a ferry to Tavira Island. The island’s stunning beach, Praia de Tavira, is a stretch of golden sand bordered by crystal-clear waters. We spent a perfect day lounging by the sea, soaking up the sun, and taking refreshing dips in the Atlantic Ocean, which incidentally, was very cold! It felt like our own little paradise, far removed from the crowds of more popular Algarve beaches.

The Algarve’s Authentic Side

What struck us most about Tavira was the authentic Portuguese charm that’s often overshadowed by the more commercialized parts of the Algarve. These towns offered a more relaxed, slow-paced atmosphere that made it easy to immerse ourselves in the local culture. From sipping espresso at a street-side café to chatting with friendly locals in the market, every moment felt like an invitation to experience the real Portugal.

A Journey Worth Taking

Our visit to Tavira was an adventure of discovery, beauty, and serenity. Whether wandering the streets of the Old Town, or basking in the sun on Tavira Island’s pristine beaches, we were constantly reminded of the Algarve’s unique charm.

For anyone looking to escape the crowds and explore a more authentic side of Portugal, Tavira is a destination you shouldn’t miss. With a perfect mix of history, culture, and natural beauty, this town gave us an unforgettable experience we’re already longing to relive.

What I could do less of

What could you do less of?

I could probably spend less time doom-scrolling social media like a caffeinated raccoon rifling through a digital trash can. Maybe I should stop hitting snooze so many times that my alarm clock feels like it’s in a toxic relationship. Oh, and I could definitely ease up on Googling “symptoms of mild annoyance” every time someone cuts me off in traffic. Let’s be honest—my search history could use a little less melodrama and a lot more chill.

A Great Day In London

What positive events have taken place in your life over the past year?

It may not necessarily be an event that happened this year,  but  I love the Christmas season. What an incredible day we had in London recently!

From the moment we strolled along the Thames, marveling at the iconic Tower Bridge, to the afternoon spent exploring the majestic halls of the British Museum, the city seemed to radiate energy and charm.

The weather was on our side, with sunshine perfectly illuminating the vibrant streets of Covent Garden where we indulged in some delicious street food.

The highlight? Watching the breathtaking sunset from the London Eye, the city glittering beneath us as we shared laughter and made memories to last a lifetime.

London truly worked its magic on us!
